An update and conversation on the renewables sector and how the traditional oil and gas sector might cohabitate with renewables over the next years.


Michael is Founding Partner and CEO of NextEnergy Capital and member of the Investment Committee of the NextEnergy Solar Fund listed on the London Stock Exchange. Michael has extensive energy and power experience as well as financial expertise developed over nearly 20 years in Investment Banking and managing energy companies. He left Goldman Sachs in 2006 (to found NextEnergy Capital) as Managing Director in the European Energy & Power Team in the European Investment Banking Department; previously having held similar roles at Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse First Boston in London. Since then, beyond founding NextEnergy Capital and driving its development, he has also held various roles in AIM-listed companies. He acted as Valiant Petroleum Plc’s CEO managing the company and its sale to Ithaca Energy for US$459m. Prior to that, he was Valiant Petroleum Plc’s Senior Independent Board Member, having been on the board since 2006. He was also Non-Executive Chairman and then CEO of Mediterranean Oil and Gas Plc (an AIM-listed company focused on E&P opportunities in and around the Mediterranean and Italy’s fourth-largest gas producer). Michael holds an MBA degree from INSEAD (1994) and a BA in International Relations from the University of San Diego (1989).
