Shell’s strategic intent is to deliver a world-class investment opportunity and our exploration activity plays a key part in making that a reality – across our global portfolio and in the UK. Delivering this strategy however comes with dilemmas and opportunities. The dilemmas reflect wider societal challenges and are complemented by opportunities, which, properly grasped, will guarantee that exploration will thrive for decades to come.
Marc Gerrits was appointed to the role of Executive Vice President Exploration in February 2017. In this role, Marc has global accountability for exploration operations and new business opportunities worldwide, as well as overseeing all technical aspects of exploration.
Marc’s career has spanned a variety of exploration roles since joining Shell in Australia as a geologist in 1986, bringing over thirty years of experience and leadership expertise to the Shell Group. This includes the position of Vice President Exploration - Asia and Australia from 2009 to 2014. From 2004 to 2009, Marc was the General Manager Exploration and Board member for Shell in Libya. He has also worked in technical and commercial roles in Angola, the UK North Sea and Egypt.
From February 2015, prior to his current role; Marc held the position of Vice President Strategy and Portfolio, Upstream and Integrated Gas.
