Jon is President of The Scottish Oil Club for seasons 2013-14 and 2014-15. He is a qualified corporate lawyer and petroleum economist who started his professional career in 1994 as a research associate at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum, Mineral Law and Policy, University of Dundee. In 1997, he was recruited to Arthur Andersen, advising on a number of upstream/downstream and services transactions. Jon joined Brewin Dolphin Investment Banking (now N+1 Singer) in late 2000 where he went on to lead its Energy & Natural Resources team. From 2008 to 2014, he held senior posts at Cenkos Securities plc, including Head of Corporate Finance, Energy and Natural Resources. At Macquarie Capital, he is currently Senior Managing Director and Head of Oil & Gas for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Jon is a member of the Law Society of Scotland; the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators; the Faculty of Corporate Finance, Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales; the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments; the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain; he is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority and is a Qualified Executive under the London Stock Exchange's AIM Rules for Nominated Advisers. Jon has sat on the board of The Scottish Oil Club since 2008.
Les Thomas
Member, Executive Vice President

Les is currently Chief Executive Officer of Ithaca Energy Inc, a North Sea focused oil and gas operating company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX: IAE) and the London Stock Exchange AIM (LSE AIM: IAE). Les took up the post as CEO of Ithaca in October 2013, having worked in the industry for over 30 years in a variety of roles. Les spent 22 years with Marathon Oil Corporation in various locations in subsurface, engineering, operational and senior management positions, becoming the European Business Unit Leader, responsible for Marathon’s upstream business in the UK, Ireland, Netherlands and Norway. Les left Marathon in 2004 to join the Board of John Wood Group PLC as Chief Executive of the Wood Group Production Facilities business and as the Group Director responsible for HSE. He led the Wood Group Production Facilities business through organic growth and acquisitions to become a $2 billion+ turnover business operating in 25+ countries. Les joined the Board of the Scottish Oil Club in 2012.

RBC Capital Markets, Vice President

Nathan is an E&P equity research analyst at RBC Capital Markets (#1 rated analyst, 2013 Extel Survey). He is focused on UK and Toronto Listed E&P companies, predominantly those active in Asia, Latin America, UK North Sea and FSU. He joined RBC in 2007 from Bridgewell's UK small cap oils team. Previously he spent time in venture capital - investing in early stage energy technologies with ITI Energy. Prior to which he was with oil industry consultant Wood Mackenzie for five years, mainly covering Asia (especially India). Nathan also worked for three years as a Project Geoscientist with Racal Survey on integrated geoscience projects in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, India, Egypt and Turkey. He has a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Geology from St Andrews University, a MSc in Basin Analysis from the Royal Holloway College, University of London. He is Fellow of the Geological Society, Director of The Scottish Oil Club and a Member of The Company of Merchants of Edinburgh.

Andy joined Wood Mackenzie in 2001 and works in the Sales and Account Management team, focusing on the financial and professional services sector.
Paul Binns
Member, Director

Paul worked for the British Geological Survey’s marine unit in Edinburgh before joining Shell’s Geophysical Research group in The Hague. He subsequently worked in technical and managerial roles in Shell’s operating units in the Middle East and Africa, and in business functions in The Hague. He now teaches externally at the Shell Open University and at Heriot Watt University, as well as undertaking other work. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society and an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society.

Nigel Bradburn Search, Director

Nigel Bradburn is Managing Partner of NBS Ltd, an Executive Search firm providing strategic hiring services to a range of operator and service company clients spanning the energy sector. Resident in Aberdeen for the last 15 years, he previously worked for the American oil companies Amerada Hess and Marathon Oil before moving into the Executive Search arena. He has been a member of the Scottish Oil Club for a number of years and joined the Board in 2010.

Billy Clegg has spent 16 years advising companies on their communications with shareholders and financial PR, 6 years at Bell Pottinger Financial and 9 years at Financial Dynamics / FTI Consulting, where he specialised in advising energy companies. Billy is a founding partner of Camarco, a financial PR and IR consultancy based in the City, specialising in the he energy and resources sector. Billy has advised a spectrum of businesses from FTSE 100 companies through to companies listed on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange, providing standard financial calendar advice through to advising his clients on the most complex of corporate transaction including demergers, M&A, Initial Public Offerings and shareholder activist situations. Billy is a fellow of the Geological Society.

Susie Inkson is a lawyer at Cairn Energy, focusing on Cairn’s assets in the Mediterranean and North Africa. Susie trained with McGrigors and spent three years with the firms's Energy Team. Susie has been a regular attendee at the Scottish Oil Club since 2008 and has been on the Board of Directors since 2011.

Aileen is Vice President, Natural Resources for Turner & Townsend, a leading global programme management and construction consultancy that supports organisations that invest in, own and operate assets. Her key focus is to manage the Performance Forum, which provides industry leading cost, schedule and technical benchmarking services to Oil and Gas operators. Prior to joining Turner & Townsend, Aileen worked for Wood Mackenzie for 9 years as a downstream research manager and ExxonMobil for 5 years in technical, operational and commercial roles. Ms Jamieson holds a BEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, and is currently based in Houston, Texas, USA.

David MacDonald is European Legal Counsel at InterGen, a global power generation company. David supports InterGen's UK and Dutch power generation assets and related business, having previously worked at Macfarlanes, McGrigors and BP Exploration Operating Company, advising on corporate M&A, corporate finance, oil and gas and power generation. He has been on the Board of the Scottish Oil Club since 2011.

John is Head of Technical at Petroceltic, advising on operations and developments in North Africa and the Black Sea. He has 30 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry gained with Shell, Enterprise Oil, Canadian Natural Resources, Melrose and Petroceltic, as well as in consultancy. His experience includes reservoir engineering, integrated subsurface studies, asset management, commercial and operations. John joined the Board of the Scottish Oil Club in 2010.

Phil Richards is the Head of Hydrocarbons at the British Geological Survey. He completed his geology degree at Aberystwyth and his Applied Geology PhD at Strathclyde, and has over 30 years of world-wide experience of oil exploration experience and of the development of regulatory regimes. He now works principally on projects for government departments and international agencies, specialising in creating the technical conditions necessary for inward investment in hydrocarbon exploration in developing basins. He recently also assumed responsibility for all shale gas research at the BGS.

1969: Graduated BTech and PhD in in Chemical Engineering from Loughboriugh University.PhD on the topic of the strength of powders. 1969-1972: Research Scientist, Shell Research. October 1972: Joined Heriot-Watt University as lecturer in Chemical engineering. September 1975: One of the founding member of the Department of Petroleum Engineering. MSc and Short course teaching module on Reservoir Engineering. 1979: Started research in PVT re. CO2 EOR, funded by UK Dept. of Energy, 1st grant of their Advisory Committee on Enhanced Oil Recovery. 1979: Started research on Formation Damage re. Water Injection, funded by SERC Marine Technolgy. 1980: Started Oilfield scale research funded by SERC. Early 1980's initiated the concept of joint industry research projects which was somewhat novel at the time. 1986: With Prof. Ali Danesh started research in gas hydrates. All except one of these research themes have maintained continuous industry support up to the present time in the context of the current technical challenge

Stephen primarily focuses on the upstream oil and gas and ICT industries. He has extensive equity capital markets, mergers & acquisitions and private equity experience and advises both funders and corporates. Recent work includes acting for a number of independent E&P companies across a range of matters, including capital raisings, portfolio rationalisations and takeover transactions. He is recognised as a leading practitioner in Chambers, which describes him as "a talented, hard and fast worker with terrific public company expertise".
John Waterlow

After graduating from the University of Sheffield in 1970 with an honours degree in Fuel Technology and Chemical Engineering, John began his career in the oil industry with Shell-Mex and BP Ltd. This in turn led to a variety of corporate, marketing and supply roles in the UK and international arms of BP’s refining and marketing business. John left BP in 1993 and spent the next two years at the Energy Directorate of the European Commission in Brussels before moving to energy consultants Wood Mackenzie in 1995. Here he specialised in studies of corporate and market developments in the downstream oil sector, including taking responsibility for Wood Mackenzie’s downstream oil research publications. He was also closely involved in developing Wood Mackenzie’s expertise in analysis of the global oil market and was responsible for a wide range of oil and gas consultancy projects, advising oil majors, utility companies and government bodies. John retired from full time employment in 2009.

Paul is responsible for the energy and investment sectors, advising both corporate and government clients on strategic executive level hiring solutions. Recent work within the energy sector includes: advising an oil services client on their global expansion plans and the recruitment of a CEO, and advising a government client to ensure they are operationally ready for potential large scale hydrocarbon development and recruiting an Oil Advisor to provide ongoing support to the government.

Anton Ziolkowski was appointed to the new chair of Petroleum Geoscience at the University of Edinburgh in 1992. He is currently funded by Petroleum GeoServices (PGS) as part of a Strategic Alliance between PGS and the University of Edinburgh. In 2012 he was awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair in collaboration with PGS. He co-founded MTEM Limited, a 2004 spinout from the University of Edinburgh, and was MTEM’s Technical Director until 2007, when the company was bought by PGS, where he became Chief Scientist, Geoscience and Engineering. He returned to the University from his secondment to MTEM and PGS in March 2010. He was Headquarters Geophysicist to the National Coal Board (1976-1980) and then consultant to the British National Oil Corporation (1980-1982), before embarking on an academic career in 1982 as Professor of Applied Geophysics at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He held that position for ten years and then moved to Edinburgh in 1992. He received the Conrad Schlumberger Award of the European Association of Exploration Geophysicists, 1982; he was elected Member of Hollandse Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (Dutch Society of Scientists), 1991; he was Fall Distinguished Lecturer of the Society of Exploration Geophysicsts, 1994; he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, 1995; he was appointed Guest Professor, Changchun University of Science and Technology, China, 1997; he was elected Member of Academia Europaea, 2000. Many of his former students in Delft and Edinburgh now hold distinguished positions in academia, in oil companies, and in the oil-services sector.
