SynopsisDave will be speaking about tsunamis, their causes and threat, particularly focusing on the catastrophic event that devastated the Indian Ocean on Boxing Day, 2004. The threat to the UK is also briefly explored and whether our safety is more apparent than real. SpeakerDave has worked for the British Geological Survey for over 30 years, mainly in the fields of marine and hydrocarbon geology both in the UK and overseas. He has been researching tsunamis since 1998 when he led the marine surveys into the cause of the 17th July tsunami in Papua New Guinea that claimed the lives of over 2,000 people. Since this time Dave has been working on tsunamis in Turkey, Hawaii and Bermuda, most recently taking part in two marine surveys investigating the cause of the Indian Ocean event of 2004. ArrangementsMembers and guests are invited to convene between 18:00 and 18.30 in the Conference Room for coffee/tea and biscuits. A pay bar is available.
