Thursday 22nd June 2006, 6:00 for 6:30 start
South Queensferry provides a window into to the Firth of Forth Basin in the Midland Valley of Scotland where there is a proven petroleum system. We will see source rocks, traps, seals and reservoir rocks. We will discuss prospectivity in a general sense of the Firth of Forth Basin. We can consider the shale oil deposits and whether new technology could open up a new petroleum play in Scotland. Bring sturdy walking shoes for walking along the rocks and sand of the shoreline. Bring rain gear should the weather forecast require it. We will go "rain or shine". Speaker and Tour GuideDr. Corbett has been Head of Institute, Petroleum Engineering, Heriot Watt since 1989. Previously he was Hief Geologist for Unocal in Indonesia with previous experience as a mudlogger. ArrangementsMembers and guests are invited to convene between 6:00 and 6:30 at the shoreline car park, South Queensferry just west of the Rescue Boat Service boat house. From there we will depart at 6:30 in a guided tour of the petroleum geology on the shoreline of South Queensferry. Please bring sturdy shoes and rain gear (should the weather demand it). Following the tour, we will gather for pay-bar refreshments at the Hawes Inn, followed by dinner at the Hawes Inn.
