Synopsis

Geir will speak about the development of the giant Ormen Lange gas field on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, and specifically about the Langeled pipeline connecting the onshore terminal in Mid-Norway with Easington in the UK.

The Langeled system will be the world's longest pipeline, close to 1200 km. While production from Ormen Lange will start October 1, 2007, the southern leg of the Langeled pipeline - the part from the Sleipner field to Easington - will be ready for operation October 1 this year. This means that many fields connected to Sleipner will be able to supply gas to the UK already this coming winter.

When Ormen Lange is on plateau in 2008/09, the field will be able to supply 20 bcm/year to UK or around 20% of UK's natural gas demand by that time.
