Podcasts on The Scottish Oil Club Channel

When the speaker agrees, we will record the presentations made at events of The Scottish Oil Club and publish these as "podcasts" on the Scottish Oil Club Channel on "Ourmedia".

As defined by "Wikipedia", a podcast is:

"... a digital media file, or a series of such files, that is distributed over the Internet using syndication feeds for playback on portable media players and personal computers. "

The "channel" is the place on the Ourmedia web hosting service (free) where we will place these podcast files.

You can listen to these podcasts on your computer using any standard media player software, or download the podcast to you digital music player, e.g. an Apple iPod.

You can also "subscribe" to the Scottish Oil Club Channel on Ourmedia using the RSS feed they provide at http://channels.ourmedia.org/mediarss/channel/847.   Subscribing is the best way so that all podcasts are automatically loaded into your mp3 player, just like any other podcasts you may listen to.

The first podcast produced by The Scottish Oil Club is for the presentation by Malcolm Webb on 4 October 2007.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question Answer
I don't have an iPod, so I can't use iTunes.  So what should I do?  iTunes does not require an iPod. iTunes is Apple's software for downloading, playing, and managing digital media files.
I use Microsoft Windows, I can't use iTunes.  So what should I do? Apple's iTunes works on Microsoft Windows and on Apple's OS/X operating system.
I do use an Apple Macintosh.  What software do I need. It is likely that you have software already installed that will work just fine.  If you need to, see http://ourmedia.org/help/play-media-files for suggestions.
I don't want to use Apple iTunes.  So what should I do? You need to install some sort of software to play the digital audio file.  Try Apple Quicktime (see link below). Or see http://ourmedia.org/help/play-media-files for other suggestions.
Why should I use iTunes? It's a great product.  It's free.  The main functional reason is that you can "subscribe" to this podcast and get downloads automatically.  You might also find other podcasts from other publishers, including the BBC, NPR, etc. of interest.
I use dial-up for internet access.  Will this stop me from getting this podcast? Probably, since dial-up speeds are very slow and it's essentially impossible to download large podcast files.  Use a computer at a public library or at your place of work.
Access to The Scottish Oil Club Channel is blocked by my employer via their internet firewall rules.  How do I get around this? To try to get around your employer's internet security is probably not a good idea.  Instead, talk with the IT support people at your company to find out how you can arrange for access.
Are there other podcasts in the world which I might find interesting. Probably.  There are millions of podcasters in the world and surely there topics of interest to you.
